Stealing Cinderella By Chuck Wicks (1st stanza and chorus)
I came to see her daddy for sit down man to man
It wasn't any secret i'd be asking for her hand
I guess that's why he left me waiting in the living room by myself
with at least a dozen pictures of her sitting on a shelf
She was playing Cinderella
She was riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
In her eyes i'm Prince Charming
But to him i'm just some fella
riding in and stealing Cinderella
It shows 1st person narrative mode when it says, "I came to see her daddy for sit down man to man" in the first stanza. It also shows 3rd person narrative in the chorus where it says, "She was playing Cinderella."
You'll Think Of Me by Keith Urban (chorus)
Take your records, take your freedom
Take your memories, I don't need 'em
Take your space and take your reasons
But you'll think of me
And take your cat and leave my sweater
'Cause we have nothin' left to weather
In fact I'll feel a whole lot better
But you'll think of me.
It shows 1st person narrative when it says, "I don't need 'em" in the chorus. It also shows the 2nd person narrative when it says, "You'll think of me" in the last line of the chorus. The chorus also shows a stream of consciousness because when he is saying these words, it shows he's thinking of all the things to give back to her.
Concrete Angel by Martina McBride (whole song)
She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace, oh
The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul, caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
Throughout the whole song it uses "she" which is put under 2nd person narrative. Unlike most songs, this one also shows omniscience which is throughout the whole entire song.
My Give A Damn's Busted by Jo Dee Messina (first stanza)
Well, you filled up my head
With so many lies
Twisted my heart
Till something snapped inside
I'd like to give it one more try
But my give a damn's busted
1st person narrative is shown in the second to last line where it says, "I'd like to give it one more try." It also shows 2nd person narrative where it says "Well, you filled up my head," in the very first line of the stanza.

hyperbole through loss through Country Music
Kerosene by: Miranda Lambert
I'm waitin' on the sun to set
Cause yesterday ain't over yet
I started smoking cigarettes
There's nothing else to do I guess.
Dusty roads ain't made for walking
Spinning tires ain't made for stoppin'
I'm giving up on love cause love's given up on me
I gave it everything I had
And everything I got was bad
Life ain't hard but it's too long
To live it like some country song
Trade the truth in for a lie
Cheating really ain't a crime
I'm giving up on love cause love's given up on me
Forget your high society I'm soakin' it in kerosene
Light 'em up and watch them burn
Teach them what they need to learn, ha
Dirty hands ain't made for shakin'
Ain't a rule that ain't worth breakin'
Well, I'm givin' up on love cause loves given up on me
Now I don't hate the one who left you
You can't hate someone who's dead
He's out there holdin' on to someone
I'm holding up my smokin' gun
I'll find somewhere to lay my blame
The day she changes her last name
Well, I'm givin' up on love cause love's given up on me
Well, I'm givin' up on love
Hey, love's given up on me
I'm waitin' on the sun to set
Cause yesterday ain't over yet
I started smoking cigarettes
There's nothing else to do I guess.
Dusty roads ain't made for walking
Spinning tires ain't made for stoppin'

Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
In her eyes i'm Prince Charming
But to him i'm just some fella
riding in and stealing Cinderella
I leaned in towards those pictures to get a better look at one
When I heard a voice behind me say "Now, ain't she something, son?"
I said "Yes, she quite a woman"
and he just stared at me
Then I realized that in his eyes she would always be
Playing Cinderella
Riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
In her eyes i'm Prince Charming
But to him i'm just some fella
riding in and stealing Cinderella
He slapped me on the shoulder
Then he called her in the room
When she threw her arms around him
That's when I could see it too
She was playing cinderella
Riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
If he gives me a hard time
I can't blame the fella
I'm the one who's stealing Cinderella"
Butterfly Kisses by: Tim McGraw
There's two things I know for sure
She was sent here from heaven and she's Daddy's little girl
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes
And I thank God for all of the joy in my life
Oh, but most of all for..
Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk beside the pony Daddy, it's my first ride
I know the cake looks funny Daddy but I sure tried"
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning and butterfly kisses at night
Sweet sixteen today
And she's lookin' like her mamma a little more every day
One part woman, the other part girl
To perfume and make-up, from ribbons and curls
Trying her wings out in a great big world
But I remember...
Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
You know how much I love you Daddy
But if you don't mind I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses at night
Oh the precious times
Oh, like the wind the years go by
Precious butterfly
Spread your wings and fly
She'll change her name today
and she'll make a promise and I'll give her away
Standing in the bride room just staring at her
She asked me what I'm thinking and I said "I'm not sure,
I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl"
And she leaned over...and gave me...
Butterfly kisses with her mamma there
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk me down the aisle Daddy, it's just about time
Does my wedding gown look pretty Daddy? Daddy don't cry"
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses
I couldn't ask God for more
Man, this is what love is
I know I've gotta let her go, but I'll always remember
Every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses at night
Just A Dream by: Carrie Underwood
It was two weeks after the day she turned 18
all dressed in white
going to the church that night
She had his box of letters in the passenger seat
A six pence in her shoe
Something borrowed, something blue
And when the church doors opened up wide
She put her veil down trying to hide the tears
Oh she just couldn't believe it
She heard the trumpets from the military band
And the flowers fell out of her hands
Baby why'd you leave me
Why'd you have to go
I was counting on forever
Now I'll never know
I can't even breathe
It's like I'm looking from a distance
Standing in the background
Everybody's saying he's not coming home now
This can't be happening to me
This is just a dream
The preacher man said "Let us bow our heads and pray"
"Lord please lift his soul and heal this hurt"
Then the congregation all stood up and sang
The saddest song that she ever heard
Then they handed her a folded up flag
And she held on to all she had left of him
oh and what could've been
Then the guns rang one last shot
And it felt like a bullet in her heart
Baby why'd you leave me
Why'd you have to go
I was counting on forever
Now I'll never know
I can't even breathe
It's like I'm looking from a distance
Standing in the background

Imagery through loss through country music
The song Hurry Home has a lot of imagery. One example is in the first line which says, “He’s been
sitting by the phone since she left.” Another example is when the last line of the
first statement says, “And then he softly sings,” which helps you see that he
is singing the chorus while playing his guitar, which is said in the third and
fourth lines in the first stanza. In the first line of the sixth stanza, it
says, “She was just outside a bar in New York City.” Anyone can easily see a
girl sitting in a bar in the city. In the fourth line of the same stanza it
says, “But she dialed up that old number, and let it ring,” which is simply saying
that she called someone on her phone. The last lines of the song say, “He
walked in just in time to hear her say, Dad I’m on my way,” which helps you see
the dad walk in the room to hear her say that on the answering machine.
Travelin’ Soldier by: the Dixie Chicks is another country song that shows a lot of
imagery. The whole first stanza is talking about how a soldier “Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair” (stanza 1 line 4). A person can picture the girl giving “him a smile” (stanza 1 line 5). In the first line of the second stanza a person can see a girl and a soldier sit “on the pier.” The last line in the chorus helps you picture the letter saying “the soldier’s coming home.” The whole fourth stanza has a person picture a girl getting a bunch of letters saying things like, “When it's gettin' kinda rough over here I think of that day, sittin' down at the pier And I close my eyes and see your pretty smile Don't worry, but I won't be able to write for awhile” (stanza 4 lines 7-10). The sixth stanza helps the person picture a girl at a football game and a person reading off names of soldiers who passed away.

Theme/Genre Project
For the genre I am going to use Country. I am choosing country because I was raised to be a "country girl" and it was the first genre of music I was ever exposed to. I also chose Country music because it is the one thing that has always helped me through my hard times in life. The theme I am choosing is loss. I am choosing loss because it is the most inspirational lyrics that are found in country music. The saddest songs that are heard are the ones that help us the most.
